Too old to be a hipster, too young for an e-bike

Updated: Jul 31, 2021

Crossroads.

Constantly arriving at one and having to make a decision.

I regularly look back at my own decisions and get into the "What if?" conundrum.

Not in a regretting sort of way but more as an exploratory exercise to actually reflect on the road that I have chosen.

Looking back at the bumps as well as the smooth stretches that have brought me where I am now.

"The journey is the thing of it," a friend of mine used to remind us while we were travelling the wonderful West of Ireland and enjoying the endless roads on the Atlantic coastline.

And I remind myself all of the time.

The journey is there to be enjoyed.

Now I am at that "awkward" stage in my life, too old to be a hipster and too young for an e-bike, but that is exactly what I did: I invested in an e-bike and took a trip along the Royal Canal, covering 170km of the newly completed Greenway.

A wonderful experience shared with my wonderful wife, my companion for many years.

She was at one of those crossroads, one of those that I look back at with delight.

I'll keep on making those decisions, no regrets, just enjoying the journey (and yes sometimes with some battery powered assistance)

Well, we know where we're goin'

But we don't know where we've been

And we know what we're knowin'

But we can't say what we've seen
